How To Make A Pet Duvet Cover

Animal bedding is becoming more and more popular. With celebrities like Paris Hilton pushing animal clothing and accessories onto the world, pet owners are becoming more aware of animal fashion. Pet owners are spending 70% more on pet clothing than they have in the past. The trend of the pampered pets is popular and is not going anywhere anytime soon. Animal duvet covers are one of the trends, with pet bedding being on the rise. Use these tips to learn how to make your own animal duvet cover.

Before the trend of pet bedding, there was the pet purse trend. People with small pooches have spent up to $1500 on designer pet purses to carry their precious pets in. After that phase died out a bit, along came pet bedding. Many millionaires have allowed their pets entire bedrooms for their sleeping and frolicking. Bedding is a serious area for pet lovers. Beds are becoming more and more elaborate, with some even looking like miniature human beds with posts and all.

Along with the pet beds, came along pet sheets, comforters, and pillows. With pets being treated to items like down comforters, animal duvet covers have become the new sought after item to have. Animal duvet covers offer pets and their owners a protective coating for an expensive down throw or comforter.

Finding this interesting item may be difficult at this time, as not too many pet designers are making them yet. So, if you are dying to have one immediately, try making your own. For middle classed pet owners, get a small down mixture throw from your local general merchandise store. These items usually cost around $20 and are very comfortable. To protect the item however, it should be covered.

The next step in making the animal duvet cover is to purchase material. Try to find material that will not show dirt easily and one that is washable. Buy enough material to cover your entire throw. The ladies at the craft store can help you measure the throw if need be. Turn your material inside out. Then, using a sewing machine, sew a manila envelope shape with the material, leaving room and an opening at the top to fold over.

After finishing the sides, you can turn the material right side in. Most duvets will have buttons to hold the duvet in place, but with animal duvet covers, buttons can pose a choking hazard, so Velcro is suggested. Attach the Velcro to the underside of the flap as well as the top of the envelope shape. Put your throw inside, and you have your finished look.

This is great because when it becomes spoiled, you can simply remove the throw and toss the cover into the washing machine. Making your own animal duvet cover is easy and fun. It allows you to also color coordinate your pet’s bedding with your own or with the room in which they sleep. Your friends will adore your animal duvet cover. Soon, you will be making them for all of the pet owners you know!
