Uk Duvet Covers
Duvet Covers: UK Style
The allure of bedding products, including duvet covers
from the United Kingdom, is large due to the uniquely
high quality linen and cotton fabrics, used to make
these items. These, in combination with beautiful
designs and delicate embroidery, create the coveted
duvet covers, UK style.
Linen
Linen bedding is both an Irish and English specialty.
Irish linen is considered the finest linen in the world.
It comes from the fibrous stalk of the flax plant. This
plant is harvested by pulling it straight from the
ground, to protect the stalk. The process of linen
production is complex and requires great skill from the
cultivation of the plant, to the design and manufacture
of the beautiful products such as duvet covers.
Linen also has practical advantages. It is a sturdy
fabric that wears well. It is so strong that it was used
for shields and armor padding in the middle ages, as
well as underclothing and outerwear. Also, from a modern
perspective, its tightly woven fibers render it
hypoallergenic. It is also said that if you see linen as
part of your dreams, it is a symbol of prosperity! What
better motivation could there be than to buy a duvet
cover, UK style?
Irish linens are traditionally hand embroidered with
Shamrocks, and can be enjoyed by those with Irish
heritage and those who just like beautiful designs.
Cotton
The UK quality of cotton is a major factor in the appeal
of English bed linens and duvet covers. Egyptian cotton,
with a thread count of 200 or better, makes beautiful
and durable bedding. Other factors contribute to quality
cotton. These are the length of the “staples” – the
fibers of the original cotton. The best cotton is made
from the longest staples. Cotton combing, a process that
refines the cotton and removes dirt, is also a part of
quality production.
This fine Egyptian cotton is used in duvet covers, UK
style. It is often left in its original dazzling white,
and made into lovely, simple designs. The simple,
sensual texture of a duvet cover made from a one hundred
per cent cotton weave is an example of this style.
Embroidery
Duvet covers, UK style and other bed linens often
feature delicate embroidery. These enchanting designs
include flowers motifs, paisley, French designs, logos
or monograms.
There are also some distinct and delicate styles of
print such as the Cotton Lavender range. These sheets
and duvet covers from the UK are festooned with a
delicate pattern of the lavender flower. It is available
in the soothing shades, of lavender blue, coral pink, or
beige sand. All that is needed is a little whiff of
lavender scent and the sleeper is away to sleep in a
field of cotton lavender!
Care of Cotton and Linen UK Duvet Covers
High quality Cotton duvets should be washed in warm
water with a modest amount of detergent. Some shrinkage
will occur, but the manufacturer will have allowed for
this in the product’s size. They can be dried on a
clothes line or tumbled in the dryer.
Linen Duvet covers should be also gently washed in warm
water and mild soap. Delicately embroidered items can be
placed in a lingerie bag for its protection. Your linen
can be line dried, or tumbled dried or laid out on the
lawn to dry in the sun. Just collect it while it is
still slightly damp.
With proper care, you will enjoy your UK duvet covers
for years to come!
