Crib Bedding

Crib Bedding – Practical and Decorative

Today’s crib bedding has become much more than a sheet and a bumper to pad the wooden sides. Crib bedding sets are done with matching fabrics, with quality workmanship and with an assortment of themes that contribute to the nursery’s decor. With the number of decorative options and themes that are used for crib sets, the baby’s bed can be the centerpiece and set the tone for the entire room.

The bedding sets sold for cribs can come in three, four, and six piece sets. The basic three piece set has a comforter, a matching bumper and a fitted sheet. The four piece crib set will add a dust ruffle, also matching the patterns of the bumper and comforter. Some four piece sets will have a two-piece bumper, and add merely the comforter and fitted sheet. A six piece crib set typically includes the comforter, fitted sheet, a four sided bumper, a valance, dust ruffle and diaper stacker.

The number of fabric choices and themes available in these matched sets is staggering. One online site offers two hundred fifteen crib bedding sets, no two of them alike. Themes range from the traditional patchwork quilt style to beautifully sewn pieces with appliqued moons and stars. Because of various cloth items that are incorporated into a crib bedding set with the comforter, dust ruffle and bumper, the crib becomes a piece of furniture with tiers of matched fabric.

Kimberly Grant, NoJo, Kidsline, Lambs and Ivy and Glenna Jean are a few of the specialty houses that each produces a multitude of designs for crib products. In addition, there are themed products licensed by Disney, Hello Kitty and other child entertainment producers which feature their characters. Many of these companies produce ancillary products that are decorated or upholstered in the same theme as the bedding. Baby chairs, throw rugs, wall decorations and night lights may be found adorned with the same fabric or theme as the basic crib bedding set.

Because so many mainstream products are available online today, internet shopping has become a popular resource for pregnant mothers-to-be. Fully stocked baby furniture and bedding web sites can be found with a wide variety of products from popular, well known and long established manufacturers.

Colors are no longer limited to pink and blue: bedding and other room furnishings can be found to fit in a room painted in virtually any color. Some baby furnishings companies that carry bedding lines produce wall borders that match the fabric pattern: these borders are four to six inch high strips of wallpaper type material that match the room’s walls to the crib’s comforter. There are some remarkable decorating options available today.

Fabrics can range from the practical cotton and cotton/synthetic mix to elaborate displays of brushed gingham and chenille. There are sets of crib bedding that made from satin and velour with appliqued and embroidered figures. Some manufacturers will send you fabric samples at a minimal cost to provide the same touch-and-feel opportunity that is available in a retail store. Just as with color, fabrics are no longer limited to the few “baby proof” options of a generation ago. Synthetics and applied coatings have made a much wider range of fabrics into reasonable nursery choices, and have made crib bedding as much a decorative concern as it is a practical commodity.
