Buy Down Comforter
Guide To Buying a Down Comforter
When you are buying a down comforter, you are not alone.
Down is the most popular fill for standard comforters
today. Down comforters are known for their flexibility,
extreme warmth in the winters, and light coolness in a
hot climate. When buying a down comforter, you will find
that they are available in a variety of styles and
colors as well as various sizes, including twin, king,
queen and California king.
Comforters are certainly becoming a home decorating
must-have, as they offer consumers a chance to dress up
a room. From the elegantly casual denims to the
sophisticated satin from your favorite designers,
whatever you choose, there is an appropriate down
comforter to suit your every style.
Buying a comforter should be a family project. Make note
of the colors in your room and those that you want to
stand out, and purchase an appropriate color or texture.
Once at the store, pay particular attention to certain
key factors before buying a down comforter. Firstly, you
should note the comforter’s fill power. The fill power
could tell you how fluffy or puffy the fill in your
comforter is. The higher the fill power, the more
durable your comforter will be. They include Duck
feather, Goose feather and down, Goose Down, Hungarian
Down, Siberian Down and Duck feather and down.
Siberian Down is the best out of the set, and is made
from goose down. Siberian Down is collected from geese
within the cold winters and is the heaviest comforter
that there is, with an 800 fill. If you want to buy a
comforter that will be passed down in your family from
generation to generation, Siberian Down should be your
choice.
Not too far behind in terms of sophistication is the
Hungarian Down, which has a filling power of 650 plus.
Down is specifically used in comforters for insulating
purposes in duvet covers and pillows. They are sometimes
mixed with feathers to create a fluffier, but durable
product.
One has to be careful when purchasing down, however,
particularly because of its allergenic component. A
Syriaca cluster is a fiber that is hypoallergenic and
aids in stabilizing the ingredients in the comforter’s
down that usually causes an allergic reaction. It is
usually mixed with goose down to suppress dust and
dander and other allergens.
Hypo-down is another ingredient that is used to
stabilize down’s allergens. It is a naturally
hypoallergenic product, which makes for a warmer down
comforter or pillow. Of course, if you have a bad case
of allergies, you may want to invest in a synthetic
comforter.
And if you are planning on buying a down comforter to
benefit you in a climate that is strictly warm or only
cold, then choose either a lightweight or heavyweight
comforter as necessary for maximum comfort.
The comforter’s thread count is also very important. The
higher the thread count, the lighter and softer the
comforter is. Once you’ve taken your comforter home and
used it for a few months, have it professionally
cleaned. Repeat the professional cleaning every few
months or when it gets dirty.
One can avoid the wear and tear of the down comforter by
investing in a duvet cover, which eliminates excessive
cleaning. The duvet cover is like a sack, which envelops
your comforter for protection and are also tastefully
designed to complement any decorating scheme.
