Cheap Down Comforter

Shopping For a Cheap Down Comforter

A cheap down comforter is a good idea if you love the feel of a down comforter but cannot afford something very high quality with a matching price tag. While you may have to sacrifice a bit where quality you can easily find a cheap down comforter than meets your needs for warmth and comfort.

Many discount stores carry a fairly large selection of cheap down comforters all year around, but especially during the winter months. There is usually nothing wrong with these well-priced comforters; they are usually over stock from other stores and simple needed to be moved out to make room for new merchandise. If it seems like a good price, unzip the bag a bit and see how the cheap down comforter feels. If it’s really cheap it could be a very low thread count, which would explain the decent pricing. Remember though, you can always buy a duvet cover to compensate for the lacking thread count as well as soft sheets.

Another really great time to buy a cheap down comforter is at the end of the winter season when stores are looking to move heavy winter type blankets out of the store so there is adequate room for spring and summer related items. You can often find discounts of thirty to fifty percent and bedding and linen stores. Watch for the sale papers and keep an eye on those fast falling prices.

The internet is also a great resource for a cheap down comforter. The internet almost always has a site that sells at wholesale or just above wholesale, so you can take advantage of those great prices. The only thing you have to be careful about when purchasing on the internet is shipping costs. You can buy a cheap comforter, but if you are charged three times two much for shipping you haven’t really saved anything at all.

Sometimes, when you find a cheap down comforter it’s well priced because the feathers inside are dark and show through a white lining and it’s just very attractive. These down comforters are still a good buy; you’ll just need to pick up a duvet cover, which is a good idea anyway. Down comforters are hard to launder properly if you do not have an oversized washer so a duvet cover will actually protect your down comforter from body oils and other stains. Duvet covers can be very expensive, or very reasonable. If you go to a place like IKEA or Target you can usually get a duvet cover for less than thirty dollars.

Making a down comforter also isn’t that difficult. You could buy fabric and down feathers for fairly cheap, as well as a pattern or directions. The internet also happens to be a great resource for sewing patterns, tips, and suggestions on just about anything. So, you may be able to get a high quality fabric, down feathers, and a pattern for very little money. You’ll have to invest a little bit of time, but isn’t it worth it for a comfortable yet cheap down comforter?
