Baby Bed Comforter
Give purpose to your Baby Bed Comforter
You have been dreaming of this moment, the perfect crib,
the perfect paint, that adorable little lamp and let’s
not forget that adorable little baby bed comforter in
the theme you carefully chose. You didn’t even give a
second thought to the fact that you wouldn’t be using
that carefully chosen comforter to wrap up your precious
bundle of joy.
Yet, because of SIDS and the ‘no-soft-bedding’ rule, you
have a cute baby bed comforter that doesn’t have a
purpose. However, there are some great things you can do
with the comforter safely.
Walls and Decor
Yes, use it as a wall hanging. This is a simple and
great way to display your comforter and accent the theme
of your baby’s room. If you have the matching bumper,
skirt and sheet then it will add an extra oomph to your
room. Purchase a couple of cute yet simple quilt clips
and hang it up high enough that when baby starts
toddling he won’t be tempted to use it to pull himself
upright.
Another equally cute way to use the baby bed comforter
is as a window covering. This works especially well if
you have a small window, and most are thick enough to
really block quite a bit of light. You can even use to
quilt clips to hang it over the window or sew a strip of
fabric to the back to create a tube to put a rod
through. Remember though that fading may occur from
extended exposure to sunlight.
Tummy Time
Your new infant, after a few months, will need some
floor time to start developing strong muscles. Use your
cute and cushy comforter as a pallet for the baby or
underneath their play mat for some extra cushion. Just
make sure there are not any loose threads, ribbons or
other adornments that can come off the baby bed
comforter and become a choking hazard. Keep in mind that
infants can see contrast best and are more attracted to
bright colors rather than pastels.
Cover it
Make it more versatile and likely to last through
multiple children by using duvet covers. This way you
can change the look of your baby bed comforter as often
as you like. If you sew, look for patterns that can make
your cover options endless. Choose a light cotton fabric
for summer and a cozy jersey fabric for winter. This
will also protect the comforter, and you can still use
it as a mat after the baby spits up on the duvet cover.
As they grow
There is no reason that you can’t use your baby bed
comforter beyond the first year or two. It can still
make a great room decoration if you haven’t changed the
theme; however, you could also adapt it for a bigger bed
by sewing on a border and making it larger for a toddler
or twin bed. Your child may also want to use it as a
couch blanket or for as a blanket for a favorite doll.
There are multiple uses for your baby crib comforter
even if you don’t ever use it in the crib. Enjoy using
the comforter in ways that will create lasting and
adorable memories.
