Sewing Denim Comforter Cover
Sewing A Denim Comforter Cover
Anyone who is handy with a needle and thread will enjoy
this crafts project. It involves using pieces of denim
to make a comforter for a bed. A comforter is a type of
blanket used to decorate a bed.
In order to make a denim comforter, you will need the
following items: needle and thread or access to a sewing
machine, two large strip of denim measuring the width of
the bed to be covered, pins, a zipper or buttons, and
lace edging (optional).
Even though sewing a denim comforter might seem complex,
they are quite easy to make. First start by either
purchasing denim fabric or using old jeans torn into
patches and sewn together to get the desired length.
Using pieces of old jeans is a great idea for kids and
teenagers who have outgrown their jeans. By using these
patches of old jean fabric, you can create a nice denim
jean patchwork cover. This denim comforter is easy to
make.
You can start by measuring the length of the bed that
you want to cover. Then add 2-3 inches to both the width
and the length. Next, cute two pieces of the denim
fabric to this exact measurement previously found. These
two pieces of fabric will make the top and bottom covers
of the denim comforter.
Next, using the sewing pins, pin all sides of the two
pieces of denim material together making sure that the
two pieces of your denim comforter are pinned together
nicely and properly aligned. This will be important when
it is time to sew the denim comforter.
Then either by hand stitching or using a sewing machine,
sew three sides of the denim comforter leaving the
remaining side open.
Before sewing closed the last remaining side, invert the
unfinished denim comforter and turn it onto the right
side. You can sew a zipper or button to the last
remaining end in order to open and close the Denim
Comforter.
The denim comforter can now be adorned with buttons or
lace edging or a child's name sewn in letters onto it.
But care must be taken when washing your denim
comforter. Wash the denim comforter cover only in gentle
laundry detergent, in cold water using a dryer on a low
setting. When not in use, the comforter should be stored
in a cool dry place away for moisture that might lead to
the growth of mold.
If you follow the simple steps above, you will have a
denim comforter cover to enjoy for years to come.
