Tie Dye Duvet Cover
The Groovy Tie Dye Duvet Cover
A tie dyed duvet cover is such a 70s thing, but it is
also proof that nothing ever really goes out of style,
because tie dying is back in the bedroom with a
brilliant tie dye duvet cover just the thing to make
your bedroom groovy, baby.
Your teen will love a tie dye duvet cover in vibrant
primary shades from PBTeen. The tie dye duvet cover
comes in inky to light blue, orange and yellow or candy
pink and rose red. These duvet covers come with matching
sheets and pillowcases.
Tie dye rainbow is a brilliant look for a child’s room
from Brightside Tie-Dyes. The tie dyeing spreads out
from the center of the tie dye duvet cover in a spiral
of brilliant rainbow colors. Match the duvet with tie
dyed rainbow pillow cases and sheets for a truly
spectacular effect that will brighten up any bedroom.
The spiral tie dye design also looks sensational in
earthy colors for an adult bedroom. The colors range
from black through purple to green. If you choose a
manufacturer that hand dyes the product, you will be
sure of getting something unique – no two products come
out the same in a tie dye duvet cover.
But you don’t have to buy a tie dye duvet cover, you can
make your own with a ready made white or cream duvet
cover.
You can buy tie dye kits online. These feature toning or
contrasting dyes, fixative (so your dyed item won’t
run), rubber gloves, rubber bands (for holding your
fabric in place) and full instructions on tie dying.
Make sure the kit holds enough dye for the size of your
duvet cover.
If you don’t want to use a kit, buy dyes in the colors
you want, rubber gloves and rubber bands. Lay out your
duvet cover on the floor, a gather up sections in
bunches. Twist or fold these sections and secure them
with the rubber bands. The type of fold you make will
determine the design of the tie dying. You can gather up
small bunches of fabric for small tie dye circles, or
gather up the whole duvet cover from the centre and
twist it, securing the twist with rubber bands as you go
for larger circles.
The popular spiral design is made by
twisting the duvet cover from the centre while it
remains flat on the floor. You will end up with
something like a round plate. Tie a piece of string
around the outside of the spiral to hold it in place.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions in making up your
dye, and preparing your duvet cover for dyeing. Then
immerse the duvet cover in the dye and leave as per
instructions on the dye packet. If you are using more
than one dye color, rinse the tie dye duvet cover
between immersions, but do not unfold it.
After the last immersion, rinse and drain your duvet
cover, and leave for a couple of days to dry out. Then
you can remove the rubber bands or the string, unfold
and rinse again.
You will find that the dye does not penetrate into the
deep folds held by the rubber bands, so you get
repeating patterns over your duvet cover. Because no two
tie dyes are ever the same, you will have a tie dye
duvet cover that is unique and original to you.
