Black Duvet Cover
A Black Duvet Cover Can Be Brighter Than You Think
It may be hard to believe, but a black duvet color can
be the perfect accent to your bedroom decor. Many
people, especially when decorating the bedroom, are
afraid of using the color black.
Perhaps that is because bedrooms tend to be smaller than
the other rooms in the house, and the classic,
old-school decorating rule – use dark colors sparingly
in small places for fear of making it look smaller –
still reigns in the average decorating consciousness.
However, black can be brighter than you think.
While, quite naturally, the size and existing color
scheme of your bedroom will influence the effect that a
black duvet cover will have on the decor of your
bedroom, it is also the type and texture of fabric used
in the making of the duvet cover that will determine the
look and role it plays. Black isn’t only dark.
A black duvet cover made from a fabric that has a sheen
to it, such as satin, will catch and reflect light.
While we don’t generally think of black as having
shades, in reality, fabrics do come in a variety of
shades of black. Some are deeper than others. Some
fabrics have fibers woven in that add a deep glittering
effect. Some black duvet covers use a combination of
textures and fabrics to create beautiful black on black
prints and patterns.
What you choose to place around your black duvet cover,
or how you choose to accent your bed and bedroom will
also affect the style and tone of the room. For many,
white is the natural contrast to black. However, there’s
no need to feel limited to pairing black and white
exclusively.
There are many other colors that can create an
interesting and eye pleasing effect when used with a
black duvet color. Among these are pink, red, and forest
green. Throw pillows rimmed with black lace and ribbons
can add a touch of femininity. In some bedroom designs,
a strong yellow or certain shades of blue can serve as
an attractive complement to a black duvet cover.
Black does tend to be more forgiving of spots and
smudges than are lighter colors, but that does not mean
it that it does not need to be treated with care.
Oil-based products, such as petroleum jelly and mineral
oil based creams and lotions will make obvious stains on
your black duvet cover.
Dust will detract from its appearance. Make sure you
choose a fabric that is easy to care for and easy to
clean. To keep your black duvet cover looking as black
as it should throughout its service, always follow the
manufacturer’s care and cleaning instructions carefully.
The bed is usually the largest piece of furniture in the
room, taking up the most floor space and drawing the eye
almost naturally. However, there’s no need to let the
idea of using a black duvet cover frighten you away from
trying a new look. Black, especially when care is used
in choosing the type and texture of the fabric, can add
a special touch to many bedroom decors.
