Winter Down Comforter
Great Uses For A Winter Down Comforter
There is nothing better in the wintertime than curling
up by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate and your
sweetheart. Of course, you could also just dream this
scene in your warm down bed, which is almost as good.
Buying a winter down comforter is a huge investment,
because not only are they very expensive, but they also
require a duvet cover (or they are just plain white).
They are well worth the investment though, on those cold
winter nights that you crawl under them in drift
instantly off into sleep. Spending upwards of seventy
five dollars on a winter down comforter can be a little
bit scary, but there are a number of ways that you can
affordably make the winter down comforter while worth
your investment.
First of all, you can use the winter down comforter as a
mattress top in warmer weather, when you wouldn’t
necessarily use it as a blanket. This is a great way to
make your bed a little piece of heaven, and also not
have to find summer storage space for such a large
pillow like blanket. When you make up your bed with new
sheets, just put the winter down comforter on the bed
before you put the fitted sheet on the bed, and your bed
is instantly ten times softer.
Another way to make the investment seem a little easier
to take, is to purchase a couple of different duvet
covers for the winter down comforter. The problem with
this is, that duvet covers can also be expensive. There
are a couple of different ways to have the same mixing
it up without having to purchase expensive extras like
duvet covers. First of all, you can just use your old
comforters that you love to put over the down comforter.
Other than those sleeping in the bed, no one will even
be able to tell the difference.
If you have an old family quilt, you can throw that
right over the winter down comforter, and just take it
off the bed at night. You can also do the same thing
with king sized flat sheets that sport appealing
patterns. This is the same basic idea as a bedspread,
which essentially is useless save appearance.
You can take the homemade route as well, and pick out a
material that you like. You can either make a duvet
cover, by sewing two large pieces of material together
(think a giant version of the bean bags you made as a
kid at summer camp) except at the very top, which you
will hem and add buttons for closing.
If you are a little bit skittish about sewing, then an
easier route is to just make a throw cover to go over
the winter down comforter. You can do this by simply
getting a piece of material large enough to attractively
cover the entire bed, and hemming it on all sides. Then,
much like the king sized sheet, you have a cover for the
whole bed, and no one will be any wiser about your
decorating shortcuts.
