White Down Comforter
Why You Should Buy A White Down Comforter
It is about that time of year, the time to start
stocking up on winter supplies and survival gear. You
have been thinking about it for a couple of years, and
you have decided that this is it, this year, you are
definitely going to get a white down comforter. So what
do you do when you decide that white is just not going
to work on your bed?
Be it dust, a spill, pets, or just
everyday wear, white is not the most practical for bed
wear. It is the most logical investment, however to buy
a white down comforter if you are dropping the dime on a
down blanket at all. It is less expensive than buying
one with a fancy covering, and this way you can use
different duvet covers as you change the sheets and
blankets on your bed. There are a couple of other things
that you can do as well that will make your white down
comforter decorative without spending fifty to one
hundred dollars on a decorative duvet cover.
The first is the most time consuming, but presents the
most attractive alternative. You can make your own duvet
cover. The first step is to purchase a material that you
like and purchase enough of it to fit the size blanket
that you purchased, on both sides (so approximately
double the size of your white down comforter, plus a
couple of inches for sewing room.)
The next step is to choose buttons with which to close
your duvet cover once you have put the white down
comforter inside of it. The buttons are more for you
then anyone else, since customarily they will be hidden
by pillows. Essentially what you want to do is create a
large pouch by sewing along three full sides of the
material, and leaving one side open. This side will be
the top. From there you will hem the top, create button
holes, and sew on the buttons. Now just put your white
down comforter in the duvet cover, and you’re all set!
The second option is to find a flat sheet that is one
size larger than your white down comforter and comes in
a pattern or color that you like. This is kind of like a
makeshift duvet cover. Simply fold it under on all sides
of the white down comforter, and safety pin the sheet to
the comforter on the underside. It may take some
adjusting, but in essence it is much less time
consuming.
The last option is very similar to the second, in that
it can also be done with a large flat sheet. It can also
be done with a tapestry or large throw that you like.
This is definitely the easiest option, but takes the
most upkeep in terms of making your bed. Ready? Put the
sheet, throw or tapestry on top of your white down
comforter on a fully made bed. What’s the next step?
There isn’t one. Just get into bed and enjoy your white
down comforter.
