White Comforter Set
The Beauty of a White Comforter Set
There is nothing quite like the feeling that nice clean
linens give you when you first slip into them for a good
night’s sleep. There are certainly drawbacks, however,
when trying to take care of a white comforter set. But
there’s just something about the look of a nice clean
white linen in a room certainly makes for a light airy
feeling—kind of like spring time. There are a number of
things that can ruin this feeling, of course, and that
can potentially ruin your white comforter set. Grape
juice, wine, soda, cigarette smoke, or even just the
daily wear of human bodies sleeping in it night after
night can really do a number on a white comforter set.
So how do you make the most out of your white comforter
set and keep it from being ruined by the wear and tear
that sheets and blankets are bound to encounter? Well
you could always take the route that grandmothers and
nervous aunts are famous for, and plasticize your house,
but that is a little bit counter productive if what you
are trying to do is create a more natural, airy feeling.
The clean linen feel and look of a white comforter set
is just not quite as nice when it is saran wrapped! So,
for the sake of argument, we will just assume that this
is not an option. So, when your white comforter set is
vulnerable to the powers that be (i.e. red wine, dust,
you), how do you keep it from dulling and being ruined?
There are a number of things that you can do, and should
do, in order to keep your white comforter set looking
its best. First of all, always wash your whites,
especially ones that are going to be out on display,
separately from your colors or darks so that your white
comforter set stays as bright as it was the first day
that you bought it. Line dry your white comforter set
when you can so that the dryer doesn’t make it look
worn. So that it stays soft, always use fabric softener,
and when you do use a mechanical dryer, make sure that
you use the most gentle cycle.
If you do spill something on your white comforter set,
don’t panic, but instead instantly pre-treat the stain
with cold water and regular detergent with bleach
alternative and then wash it immediately. Often times,
simply running the problem area under a strong stream of
cold water can lift the stain for the most part.
However, if you find that your stain does not come out
with this process, there are a lot of products on the
market that are designed to treat especially tough
stains.
Lastly, one way that your white comforter set can get
ruined, that you may not often think of, is the daily
wear of oily human bodies sleeping in it. Treat your bed
daily with a Febreze or similar spray, and always make
sure that you go to bed clean. Not only does it save
your white comforter set, but you’ll feel a lot better
in the morning.
