Twin Size Comforter
Five Things to Do with a Twin Size Comforter (Besides Put It On Your Bed)
With the upsurge in designers taking up the challenge
of designing bedding, there's an amazing variety of
attractive and stylish twin size comforters available. A
twin size comforter is the perfect size to serve many
purposes other than being tossed on a bed. What else can
you do with a twin size comforter other than use it as a
bed cover?
How about a wall hanging? Quilts and bedding throws have
been used to decorate walls for centuries. A twin size
comforter is the perfect size to hang as a room focus,
and there are some beautiful textural designs available
to use that way. You can hang the comforter directly on
the wall using tacks or staples, but if you want a more
professional appearance, have the twin size comforter
mounted on a stretcher frame as you would any other
fabric art.
A twin size comforter is also the perfect size to cover
a standard window. All it takes to turn a twin size
comforter into a roman window shade is a few yards of
drapery tape, with the rings already sewn in and spaced
properly, and some drapery cording. Not only will you
have an attractive, unusual window treatment, you'll be
saving on your heating bills - quilted roman window
shades can cut your heating costs by as much as 25%.
Have you got a comfortable but shabby easy chair that
you hate to throw away? Maybe you have one side chair
left from an old living room set that you'd love to put
in your bedroom. Buy two twin size comforters. One goes
on your bed. The other twin size comforter can be used
to slipcover or reupholster the chair to fit perfectly
into your bedroom's decor. If your bed happens to be a
daybed, it's a great way to get a bed-sitter look for
very little money.
While you're still thinking of re-upholstery, don't
forget your car. A twin size comforter is just the right
size to cover a standard size car bench seat. It will
perk up the inside of your car and make it unique -
while protecting your upholstery from stains and dirt.
One popular use for a twin size comforter is to turn it
into a bedroll for sleepovers and campouts. As long as
you won't be camping out in extreme temperatures, a twin
size comforter can make a great sleeping bag. Lay the
comforter out flat. Cut two 3 yard pieces of twill tape.
Fold each piece in half and pin the fold at the bottom
of the comforter. Both strips should be on one side of
the folded comforter.
Fold the comforter
in half, with the outsides facing. Starting at the
bottom of the fold, stitch along the bottom, catching
the folded edge of the tape in the seam. At the corner,
reinforce with a bar tack to help deal with the extra
stress that the corner seaming will receive. Stitch the
side closed three-fourths of the way up, leaving a
'flap' to allow the sleeper to get in and out easily.
Turn right side out. That's it. The bedroll can easily
be rolled from the top down, and the twill tape used to
tie it into a neat bundle for carrying.
Twin size comforters are more than just bedcovers. With
a little imagination and work, you can turn a twin size
comforter into a unique fashion accessory.
